When this new 22-story hotel was planned for downtown Nashville, it was one of the tallest buildings in the city. The city of Nashville has been growing rapidly, and other tall buildings are sprouting, so it was important for the new Drury Plaza Hotel to make a statement on the skyline. RBLD helped Drury accomplish this by tracing the top of the building with a linear white LED which serves double-duty, providing a punch of light on the pool deck and ground level below.

A 14-story cupral metal panel is a feature of the facade and appears to change color based on viewing angle. To strongly suggest the Drury red color with light, the design team applied saturated red uplights to the panel, creating a uniquely different viewing experience from day to night.

Horizontal and vertical louvers screen the parking garage, and grazing light emphasizes their patterns. The pool deck and dining deck lighting is just right. By integrating sources low to the ground, views through the glass railing are maintained, creating a pleasant place to sit and look out over the city from 8 stories above the ground.
