Construction all across the grounds of the Gateway Arch is well underway. While Luther Ely Smith Square opened in fall 2015, significant portions of the north and south grounds are expected to open fall 2016. Perhaps the biggest improvement takes place in the ‘North Gateway’ where a parking garage once stood, blocking views of the Eads Bridge. A custom pedestrian light fixture, inspired from an early design by Eero Saarinan and Dan Kiley for the riverfront, will provide lighting along all of the formal pathways within the park. We will share more insights into both the project, and the fixture, in future posts.
